PROJECT BRIEF

Parents and carers of children and young people with deafblindness will be able to support them with deafblindness to communicate and learn in ways that best suit the individual, through the development and use of easily accessible “how to” resource hubs (both physical and online), including practical guidance, and face to face support. Children and young people with deafblindness are able to tell others about their needs, and to have a “voice” in the decisions made about them, through the creation and promotion of videos and/or other appropriate communication channels (e.g. meetings and testimonies).



Objectives/Outcomes/Long-term Results

Outcome 1:

Parents /carers and teachers across eight countries provide better ongoing support to children and young people with deafblindness with opportunities for communication and learning.

 

Outcome 2: 

Children and young people (CYP) with deafblindness across eight countries will be able to communicate and learn, and will be able to voice their needs for themselves



Major Activities

  1. (200 children and young adults) children and young adults with deafblindness and their families receive community-based support.
  2. Training of DFEs to support the needs of CYP with deafblindness in school set-up
  3. Capacity of 4 NRC Staff, 2 RRC Managers and 1 Day Care Centre Manager will be built to work with Govt and Non-Govt organisations to strengthen Inclusive Education work in Bangladesh
  4. Clinical Assessment, TLM, Assistive Devices
  5. Organize 5 days 3 training in 3 region for 45 Primary and secondary school teachers on inclusive education and subject based issues (Sign and Braille).
  6. Meeting with Govt. and non-govt. run vocational training Institute
  7. NRC will facilitate annual national meeting of 20 young adults with deafblindness to provide a platform where they can talk about their rights and responsibilities. (NB The annual meeting will be followed by 2 regional meetings. We will use the opportunity to invite govt. officials to participant in the meeting to understand the needs of persons with deafblindness in Bangladesh.
  8. Organize 4 district level sensitization workshops on Deafblindness, MSI and inclusive education for children with deafblindness will be organized at Upazila and District level for ATEO, TEO, DPEO, Social Service officer, One stop service center
  9. Organize 40 sensitization meeting for SMC members on education for children with deafblindness.(Online)
  10.  Organize 8 sensitization workshop on disability and deafblind inclusion with local level Govt. officials (With UP members)
  11. Organize 1620 awareness raising meeting (540 per year) among the peer group.
  12. Organize 120 regular network meeting of parents and young adult with Deafblindness.
  13. Celebrate 2 National and International disability days for sensitizing GO-NGO professionals on disability and Deafblindness and engage community people as well (especially Helen Keller day, Disability day, World Hearing day).
